SAWA-Australia (NSW) supports OPAWC, the Organisation for Promoting Afghan Women’s Capabilities.  An English and Computer Centre for Women in Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan has begun classes for 60 women, chosen from 500 applicants, in the village of Qalatak in Khewa district. SAWA-NSW has provided funds for the purchase of computers, furniture and solar panels and batteries and is raising money to fund the annual cost of rent, two teachers, security guard, materials and stationery.

In October 2018 OPAWC added classes in tailoring, basic literacy and handicrafts with funds sent to them in September that year for additional teachers, materials and equipment. See the 2019-20 budget here

Face Mask Appeal

Our partner in Afghanistan, OPAWC,  is aiming to to fund the making of 200,000 face masks for Afghan street workers in Kabul.  They have 100 volunteers making the masks in a workshop which was set up in conjunction with the Vocational Training Centre in Kabul.  Can you assist with some financial support for this?

SAWA-AUSTRALIA has launched an appeal to help OPAWC volunteers achieve their goal of making 200,000 face masks for street workers in Kabul.  Donations may be made to:
